All the Games on Our Shelves

I typically only post when we play a game for the first time, but for quite a while now we've been re-playing favorites and can't seem to get back to the "counting all our games" idea that initiated this blog.  We got a particularly good amount of gaming in a couple of weekends ago, however, and we did play a new game - just not one that's on our shelves, so I thought I'd put up a post.  The photos above and below are of some of the choices that were available, contributions to the stacks having come from us, our two youngest sons, and my brother.  We ended up playing Agatha Christie's Death on the Cards , The Quacks of Quedlinburg , Barenpark , and Rook .  I had fun playing a nice selection of games this afternoon [actually two weeks ago now that I'm finally getting around to finishing the post!] with math department colleagues and friends.  I also just like being at Ross's house, as his house is filled with both things I love most: books and games, books and games!  I arrived a bit late, and they were already playing The Red Dragon Inn (which is not - yet - on our shelves).  It looks like a pretty fun game, but I don't know if my family would go for a game based on drinking.  I may see if Ross will let me borrow it so we can give it a try. We also played Dominion , which is the game I took along.  It's a game that I love and that we used to play all the time as a family.  I'm not sure if it's that we just played it way too much or if it's that Caleb has developed a killer strategy that leaves the rest of us just waiting  .  .  .  and waiting  .  .  .  to los...

 We were so excited to have a long weekend, which gave us time to game with our dear friends the Kirks.  I knew it had been far too long, but as I just now checked I see that it's been EIGHT MONTHS, which is just a ridiculously long time to go without playing games together!  I really love the fact that they involve their kids in serious gaming!  David said to me on the drive home, "I guess the jumped right over Chutes and Ladders , didn't they?"  YEP!  What you see above is a game called My First Carcassonne , and I'm sure I had as much fun playing it as the kids did.  Below is the stack of kid games that were brought out.  Carcassonne is the one in the bag.  I think Owen was pretty ready for us to get on to playing Carcassonne.  He looks quite eager as we are yet finishing up My First Stone Age with older brother Levi.  Below are a couple of pics of My First Stone Age , which also plays quite well.  Finally we...

Last night was game night at our house, and our friends the Gerdes family came for dinner and gaming (and brought WONDERFUL dessert, but more on that later).  We only had time to play three games - some of us busy working too late and getting up too early to push it beyond that, but the games we got in were good.  The first game we played is one I've posted about already: Spyfall .  The second was Balderdash , which will be the topic of my next post, game 34.  The third and final game was the Picture Sentence Game , which I haven't posted about yet, but isn't technically "on" our shelf either since it's a party game played with pencil and paper.  Hmm  .  .  .
