BONUS GAME: Trapwords

Image
Tis the season!  More posts are going up because more gaming is going on, and I imagine many will continue to be "bonus" posts, in other words posts about games that are not on OUR shelves.  This is a new game of my brother's, and the boys brought it to our house today.   They'd had a good time playing it recently and wanted to share it with us.  I have to agree that it is fun.  My take on it is that it's the hardest word game ever combined with the easiest Dungeons & Dragons campaign ever.  Actually, the game isn't hard at all, what is hard is trying to come up with effective words as "traps" for the other team and trying to guess your team's word while avoiding their traps.  OK, that probably makes no sense.  I think I'm having a hard time writing simply because I just finished playing and so have spent a lot of time describing a word while trying to imagine (and not say) words the other team might think I will say while trying to des

Game 132: Fluxx - Math

Image
We cracked open a new game tonight - wasn't sure I was going to be able to get David to play with me, since he doesn't really like the Fluxx games, but he is the math consultant at his school, so I figured maybe I would sweet-talk him into this version.  We played two games of Math Fluxx tonight.  I won the first one almost immediately, and then he won the second one just before it was time to turn on Jeopardy!, so it all worked out well.  Both games went pretty fast, though we didn't use either of the Meta Rules.  I don't know if that would have made a difference, but we haven't seen those in any other Fluxx games we'd played previously.  We were short on time, so we figured we'd just play by rules we were familiar with.  My pictures aren't very good since we were playing at night, and the cards are kinda shiny, so there's a lot of glare.  (After not having posted for FIVE MONTHS, this post makes three days in a row, so life is definitely looking

BONUS GAME: Decktective - Nightmare in the Mirror

Image
It seems things are turning around, as this is my second post in two days!  Decktective: Nightmare in the Mirror is a game that involves solving a mystery, so you can only play it once.  The idea is that you then pass it on to a friend.  Tim, Jacob and Caleb had already played it, so they brought it over for me and David to play as well.  Jacob took it home tonight, and they'll be passing it on to another of their gaming friends.  I can't/shouldn't shared too many pictures, as I don't want to give too much away.  In fact, you may not want to look further at all, just in case I accidentally end up spoiling something small even with these quite generic pictures.  It is a good game.  I do recommend it.  It takes about an hour to play.  We were really tired, so it took us about an hour and a half! The cards are in the box in a specific order, and you do have to play through it in that order.  It begins with a card containing the set-up and directions. The box ends up becom

BONUS GAME: Tiny Towns

Image
Well, it's kinda weird that the "bonus" posts are far outnumbering the "standard" posts.  I think some sort of malaise due to the pandemic and having had to teach remotely for the last three semesters has just kind of settled over me - am not gaming as much as usual, and even when I do, I'm not posting about it.  I see that my last post was in July, and it is now December!  We actually have played "new" games between now and then, a couple in August and at least one in the intervening months, and I did take pictures, but at this point I don't even know which SD card the images are on.  Hopefully the New Year, 2022, will bring better things to us all!  Anyway  .  .  .  this is a "bonus" post because this game, Tiny Towns , is not on OUR shelves, but rather on our son Caleb's shelf.  He and I are both on kind of a holiday break, so he came by this past week and introduced me to Tiny Towns .  It's a game, where, as you might ha
